It guides educators through the use of assessment exemplars, kaiako guides, and progress tracking tools to improve teaching practices and formative assessment aligned with Te Whāriki. Here’s the structured program:

  • Initial Review: An assessment of current knowledge and use of the Kōwhiti Whakapae resources, identifying gaps and opportunities to strengthen practice.

  • Full-Day Workshop: This session provides a hands-on exploration of the Kōwhiti Whakapae website, teaching kaiako how to navigate the platform effectively. It covers the following:

    • Understanding the four-step process: Lay the groundwork, Notice and recognise, Respond, and Document and communicate.

    • Using assessment exemplars to track children's progress in social and emotional learning, oral language and literacy, and maths.

    • Implementing the kaiako guides to create rich, individualized learning experiences.

    • Engaging whānau using whānau guides to support learning at home and build strong learning partnerships.

  • Two Follow-Up Visits: Ongoing support to ensure effective integration of the Kōwhiti Whakapae resources into daily teaching and assessment practices. Feedback is provided to help kaiako improve their use of the tools and adjust teaching practices as needed.
